Souper Bowl of Caring

What is the Souper Bowl of Caring?
A national movement of congregations, schools, community organizations and compassionate individuals caring for others on Super Bowl weekend (February 7th, 2010). Souper Bowl of Caring equips and mobilizes youth to positively impact their communities by collecting money or food on or near Super Bowl weekend. 100% of the collections are donated directly to the charity of each group's choice.
At Bethel, our youth will hold an All You Can Eat Soup or Chili lunch after the 11:00 services on Souper Bowl Sunday for a $5 donation to the LAD Soup Kitchen in downtown Lake City.
What is the Service Blitz?
In addition to collecting the dollar donations, youth are encouraged to serve hands-on at the charity of their choice the Saturday before the big game.
Bethel Youth will prepare and serve lunch at the LAD Soup Kitchen in downtown Lake City on Saturday, February 6th.

- 2nd Sunday - Peanut Butter and\or Jelly
- 3rd Sunday - Canned vegetables and\or canned fruit
- 4th Sunday - cereal and\or canned powered drinks (sugar sweetened tea, lemonade, koolaid, etc)
You may also donate $5 grocery gift cards to assist with perishables.
Mission 2 Honduras
The 2009 Mission 2 Honduras was postponed. We are currently working with IMB on a date for 2010. Tentatively that date is set for July 25-31, 2010.
We currently have a team of four ladies that will be traveling to Honduras with International Mission Builders in 2010. Wouldn't it be amazing if we had at least 8 team members representing Bethel?
This mission will consist of a VBS style ministry in schools, churches and orphanages; door to door witnessing in the rural mountain areas and distribution of Bibles, Care Packages, School Supplies, shoes and more. Please seek the Lord's guidance and consider joining us this year! Please support this team with your prayers for their safety, their mission and their families.
Be on the lookout for fund raising events and collections for the 2010 mission! The team would like to thank the Bethel congregation and the community for their outpouring of generosity, love and support. We will deliver 100 care packages and over 150 pairs of flip flops collected for the 2009 mission from the Bethel congregation and community.
See photos from the 2008 trip here.
Underwear for Africa
UPDATE: The team left for Africa on November 16th. Members of Bethel provided 175 pairs of underwear for their mission. THANK YOU! Please keep this team in your prayers. They are scheduled to return on November 27th.

Something simple that we take for granted each day, yet thousands of men, women and children in Africa go without!
This is a problem with a simple solution - you can donate any new undergarments (socks, underwear, etc.) for the Basotho people and they will be delivered by a team of individuals from the Tallahassee area.
Departing for Africa on November 16, 2009, they will be going to the Katse Village, approximately 1.5 k WNW of the Katse Dam. Katse is a tiny village in the Lesotho Highlands. It is near and gives its name to the Katse Dam, a huge manmade reservoir built to sell water to neighboring South Africa. All four of the team members are paying for their own airfare, food and lodging.
They will spend their time there doing walking ministry, handing out Bibles, working with orphans and sharing in the Word. It will be amazing for the Basotho to see God doing a work where there is such a need but they feel so forgotten.
Additionally, the team will deliver seeds, eyeglasses, vitamins and hygiene items.
Please keep this team and mission in your prayers.
Bring your donations to Bethel beginning Sunday, October 11th. They will be delivered to Tallahassee on November 1st.
Cell Phones for Soldiers
More than 150,000 troops are serving overseas and are away from their families. Cell Phones for Soldiers and Bethel United Methodist Church are calling on all Americans to support for these brave men and women by donating your unused cell phones. Cell Phones for Soldiers hopes to collect over 50,000 cell phones to help keep troops connected with their families.
Local residents can support the collection drive by donating their phones at the church:
4843 S US Highway 441
Corner of Highway 41 and Race Track Road
(386) 755-1353
The phones are sent to ReCellular, which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each donated phone – enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad.
